Prudent firms find ways to identify the right ones.

Efforts to modify trade agreements, changes to sanctions policies, international investment policies, and many other actions have consequences – positive and negative – for every company involved in global trade and investment. To influence decisions like these, affected firms need a skilled communicator who understands how governments make policy and how those policies affect companies.

Global Business Policy-DC is a consulting firm uniquely positioned to provide clients with just such a service.

Founded by Ambassador David D. Nelson, GBP-DC marries skills, experience, and a well-connected network – including legal firms, consulting firms and government agencies – to provide representation and policy development.

Services include:

  • Proactive global policy tracking and uncovering new opportunities for enterprises

  • Strategy development and implementation to influence policy outcomes

  • Engagement with pertinent Washington institutions on behalf of clients to achieve specific goals

  • Elevation of client profiles through relevant thought leadership opportunities

This work can best be achieved by someone who understands “how Washington works”, and is able to communicate clearly in both directions, explaining to business executives what the government is doing and explaining to the government what the real-world consequences might be.
— Ambassador David D. Nelson, Founder and CEO

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

Trade policy advice and representation. The President has launched several trade actions affecting all trading partners, with the Section 232 actions on steel and aluminum, and pending action on automobiles. Trade negotiations have been launched with NAFTA, China, EU, UK, Japan, South Korea, and more may come.

Depending on the level of service you require, we will track some or all of these issues to (1) provide advice and insight as needed, (2) provide regular, e.g. monthly, updates, (3) actively support your objectives via representations to relevant USG authorities and/or coordination with relevant business associations.

Representation to visiting officials. Many foreign leaders, including heads of state but also various Ministers and members of parliament, visit Washington frequently, and often meet with the business community. We can effectively represent your company at such events, both ’showing the flag’ to demonstrate your interest in their countries, but also in many cases making a key point or two, advocating for specific policy goals or transactions when relevant.

Representation to foreign Embassies. Most countries send Ambassadors to Washington who have ‘clout’ in their home countries.  Thus they can be a valuable channel to convey specific concerns or objectives to their governments. We can deliver those messages as requested.

Representation to US Administration and Congress. The USG has numerous interactions with foreign countries affecting US exporters and investors, including formal policy-focused discussions and informal interactions. We can convey to the relevant USG officials the specific objectives your company would like them to pursue. We can also help mobilize USG advocacy for specific policies or transactions via the US embassies.

Support for company visitors to Washington. Sometimes your business leaders may visit DC to gain first-hand understanding of key issues. We can help arrange meetings with relevant officials, particularly in the international space.

Any of these services can be provided globally or for specific regions. Compensation will depend on the scope of support required.
